Project Overview
The Multicultural Educational Conference (MCE) is an annual event hosted by the College of Education Department at Sacramento State University. The 28th annual theme for 2023 was Sankofa, a West African principle that centers around knowing one's past in order to make positive progress in the future. The word itself derives from the Ghanaian word from the Twi language meaning "to retrieve" and further promotes the idea of "remembering one's past." Therefore, this conference will speak upon these ideas and explore different topics in education and connect individuals to understanding their history and heritage. The final creative solution to promote this event consisted of creating a logo and a series of print and digital assets for the conference.

Research & Development
The concept I designed for this conference's branding system was heavily inspired by pan-African influenced artwork and culture. The symbol commonly associated to Sankofa is a bird with its head facing towards its back, creating a curved shape. I played with this idea and stylized it with some abstract, geometric shapes. The colors I chose were gold, green, red, and brown—colors often used in African culture. I also chose a font with thick, bold letters to pair nicely with the geometric shapes.

Final Brand Assets

Social Media Ad Marketing
These digital graphics have been posted across all platforms to help spread the word about the conference. This series included general information ads, announcements, guest speakers, and award recognitions—all while ensuring CSUS’ official brand alignment.

Print Collateral & Promotional Items
These marketing materials were displayed and handed out during the event. Participants and guests received the following items: a program booklet, name tag, lanyard, pins, and a stamp card as part of a social activity. These applications abide by CSUS’ official brand identity.

Presentation Display Screens
The following displays functioned as signage and background screens during the event. These digital screens were displayed on a Powerpoint presentation and the pop-up display boards helped with navigation throughout the venue.
