Project Overview
This brochure was designed for the Aperture Masters of Photography Series—an event that showcases various works of well-known photographers. I designed a brochure to honor the work of Robert Capa, a Hungarian-American photographer. Known for his remarkable work in war photo-journalism during the 1940's–50's, he would literally throw himself into the action just to get the perfect shot. He is credited as one of the bravest and inspirational photographers in American history. Therefore this project will show a geometric-based design system in which both the colors and layout resonate with Capa's heritage and legacy.

Research & Production
Through my research, I learned that Capa had a difficult early life. At just 18 years old he fled his home country due to political repression and moved to Germany. There, he was able to enroll in Berlin University and began working as a dark room assistant which sparked his interest in photography. When the Nazi regime started to take over Germany, he fled once again and began touring around all over the world which is where his photography career began to take off. He would subsequently cover five wars: The Spanish Civil War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, World War II, the Arab-Israeli War, and the First Indochina War. His work was rewarded with special honors and public mentions in widely-known newspapers. Unfortunately, his love for photography would cause him his life as he accidentally stepped on a landmine during one his photoshoots. I took this into consideration and chose colors that reflected his legacy—dark blue to represent his Jewish heritage in which he hid from the Nazis; a dark, bloody red to represent the brutality of warfare; and a muted yellow to represent a glimpse of hope during these difficult times. Lastly, I chose the font, "Krungthep" for its heavy, dreary look to bring the design altogether.
